Memory Power dips at the age of 45, not 60

Posted by Shane On January - 6 - 2012ADD COMMENTS

Cognitive skills can start to fall from the age of 45, not from around the age of 60 as is commonly thought, according to research published on Friday by the British Medical Journal (BMJ).

For our readers who are not aware of the meaning for Cognitive Skills, A simple way to define cognitive skills is to describe them as the underlying brain skills that make it possible for us to think, remember and learn.

Coincidentally, we come across few incidents in our life where people tag some old age people saying they lose the general reasoning skills. The Mythical age where people loses their capacity of thinking and understanding is 60 but, the research conducted by researchers from the Centre for Research in Epidemiology and Population Health in France and University College London speaks otherwise.

The research finds out that the process of Memory skills depletion begins from 45 and not 60.

Over a period of 10 years, the researchers made the details investigation over 5,198 men and 2,192 women, the volunteers aged between 45 and 70.

The participants were tested three times — for memory, vocabulary, and skills in aural and visual comprehension.

During this time, there was a 3.6-percent decline in mental reasoning in men aged 45-49 and a 9.6-percent fall in those aged 65-70. The corresponding figures for women were 3.6 and 7.4 percent.

“Cognitive decline is already evident in middle age,” says the paper, which defines this as the years from 45 to 49.

The findings should spur further research into spotting and braking cognitive “These changes are likely to have a profound influence on individuals’ lives and society at large. Poor cognitive status is perhaps the single most disabling condition in old age.”

Now, Facebook is behind Divorce!

Facebook, world’s renowned social media website, has been caught up against yet an another controversy. Facebook has been blamed to be the most tempting reason behind the divorces.

A law firm called Divorce-Online said that 33% of the 5,000 behaviour based divorce petitions filed with the firm in the past year mentioned the site.

“Facebook has become the primary method for communicating with friends for many people,” the Daily Mail quoted Mark Keenan, managing director of Divorce-Online, as saying.

“People contact ex-partners and the messages start as innocent, but lead to trouble.”

“If someone wants to have an affair or flirt with the opposite sex then it’s the easiest place to do it,” he said.

Holy cow, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg would have never thought about this in his wildest nightmares. What started as social networking has now turned out to be the utter reason behind divorces and other illegal activities.

Facebook? Blamed for Divorces? Stop Joking!

Some readers might think this is a sure waste of time talking about Facebook. But, I may remind you, Facebook has already faced several lawsuits, not to mention, the lawsuit of keeping the privacy detail of a user even after the user has personally deleted the message or photo or status.

Just a Facebook status message might leave you in danger, says Anne-Marie Hutchinson, of Dawson Cornwell Solicitors.

“If you are keeping things from your partner, Facebook makes it so much easier for them to find out.”

Hutchinson said that the site could also be used as evidence of unreasonable behaviour.

“If you are complaining that they have a drinking problem and they have posted statuses about going out on the razzle… that could be used,” she added.

It’s one of the few days every year in which nearly all businesses are closed across the country.

However, Kmart and Toys R Us are staying open until 10 p.m., while some Walgreens and CVS don’t plan to close.

Let it Snow with Google!

Have you tried ‘Let It Snow’ in Google Search engine? If no, then you are missing the fun.  For those who have experienced the magic three word Let it Snow in Google search engine would have surely had an exciting time admiring the snow fall.

Snow Fall?  Lol! I will make it simpler.

By typing ‘Let It Snow’ in Google Search engine, Virtual Snow fall starts coming down in the Google Page. Within a matter of seconds, the window is filled with virtual fog allowing you to draw messages.

You can scribble with whatever words that comes to your mind. For me, i had written “Welcome to Thfire” in the image above :)

Its just like the snowy days where we go out in open, have a great snow fight and scribble our mind in the frosted Car window. However, we cant have a Snow fight in the Google Search engine :)

While the snow pours down , you won’t be able to click on any of the search results, but don’t worry. The normal search icon turns into a “Defrost” button. One click will wipe away this icy veneer.

Also, don’t try the trick in older browsers, its might not work there.

Leave us your reactions on the Google’s Let it Snow.

Jeans that can clean themselves!

Posted by Shane On December - 17 - 2011ADD COMMENTS

Scientist say they have found out a technique to makes Jeans clean themselves with the help of Sunlight. So,we may actually see Jeans removing all the dirt and bacteria from it once it is placed in balcony or open place where Sunlight can touch it.

When i came across this info, i felt Wow! Now, i dont need to waste my time planning and cleaning the Jean i wore. But the following words made my day dull :(

Scientist vow to create a cotton fabric from the chemicals  Titanium Dioxide and Nitrogen that can be used for Jeans which would eventually clean itself while exposed to sunlight.

Titanium Dioxide,  is the controversial chemical used almost in all of our products. You can find Titanium dioxide in tooth paste, Paint, on Creams that you apply in skin. Titanium dioxide is normally used to create the Whiteness in the stuff you use.

Ok! Whats wrong in Using Titanium Dioxide? Whats harm in it?

I came across an interesting article on Titanium Dioxide. You can find it here .

To say, Titanium Dioxide is a serious Cancer causing contender. Reports are wider on the Chemical if you just google it.

However, it was suggested that Titanium dioxide is harmful only when inhaled and not ingested.

Imagine, the Jeans is ready with Titanium dioxide. What will happen if your kids goes on the Jeans and smells it???

Sounds scary right.

If the proposal from Scientist turns into reality, i might just say Good Bye to the Jeans.

Scams to watch out this Christmas!

Posted by Shane On December - 3 - 2011ADD COMMENTS

Christmas is around the corner, so does Scams. Each and every year, People become victims to Online scams. Christmas scams is of no exception to the long list.

So, here we attempt to give you some tips on how to avoid scams this Christmas.

Here we go.

Fake holiday help. Getting a seasonal job can be a great idea. In fact, it is one of our 5 Best Ways to Make More Money. But there are people out there preying on those who need work. Common scams to look out for include all manner of work-from-home jobs. If the so-called employer asks for money up front or your Social Security number, you might be on the verge of becoming a victim rather than an employee.

Fake charities. Don’t ever, ever, ever give money to any charity – even spare change – without checking them out first. And that’s something you can’t do if someone’s on your porch, at an intersection, or on the sidewalk asking for money. Read 4 Tips to Find the Right Charity, then visit the FTC’s website for a charity checklist.

Fake check scams. If someone is giving you money, how can you be scammed? The answer involvesfake checks. In these instances, buyers want what you’re selling on sites like eBay or Craigslist. Their next step is to offer you a cashier’s check for more than your asking price, on the condition that you return the difference. Weeks later, you are informed by your bank that the check was a phony, and you’re now out your money and your goods. The American Bankers Association has some tips to avoid being a victim, but in short, avoid cashier’s checks in situations like this and never return any difference in cash.

Counterfeit merchandise. In New York and other major cities, it is common to see street vendors selling fake watches and purses that appear to be high-end, name-brand goods. The modern version of these scams is to sell the merchandise online where the buyer has even less opportunity to inspect it. As Stacy said, beware of items that are priced well below their competitors, and be sure to buy from an authorized retailer.

Fake vacation rentals. This growing scam involves people who advertise a property they don’t even own! Sometimes the scammer goes to the effort of hijacking the real owner’s email, like in this case recently reported in The Washington Post. Other times, the scammers merely show pictures of a place they pretend to represent. You send them money and show up to find you’ve got no place to stay. Solution? Take every possible step to ensure you’re dealing with the true owner of the property, and always pay by credit card, not wire transfer.

Email scams. Many scams start with email, so be especially skeptical of anything that shows up in your inbox. Some messages involve references to recent events, such as a natural disaster or the death of a public figure. Others purport to award lottery winnings or the transfer of wealth from a foreign country. Don’t ever respond to unsolicited email.

Phishing scams. An email from a legitimate company, like your bank, insists you log in to their website. You’re then directed to a copycat site that steals your username and password. If you ever doubt any email, don’t reply. Instead, call the company or open up a new browser window and go directly to their website. Check out these anti-phishing tips from the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Bottom line? Ninety-nine percent of scams happen when we’re too gullible, too greedy, in too much of a hurry, or when we’re feeling especially charitable. Be generous…but be vigilant.
