T20 Cricket for Olympics 2020!

Posted by Riz On January - 14 - 2012ADD COMMENTS

ICC is considering a bid to include T20 Cricket for the Olympics 2020 as Cricket is all set to return to the grand stage of  all sports “the Olympics” after 100 years since it was last played in a Olympic ground.

Every sportsman want to win a gold in Olympics for their country. But the dream of a cricketer to represent their country in Olympics were kept under bay.

Not until, when the International Olympic Committee decided to recognize International Cricket Council as a legitimate board of Cricket did the dream turned into a reality.

ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat said, the strong emergence of the Twenty20 format has the ICC considering a bid to have cricket return to the Olympics after more than a century

Speaking on radio at the third Test between Australia and India in Perth, Lorgat said Twenty20 was the first international cricket format suitable for the Olympics.

“We have never had a format that would lend itself to playing in the Olympics until Twenty20 came to the fore,” he said. “We are starting to have a look at that.”

“In the strategic plan the board approved in 2011, we will evaluate properly what the benefits are for Olympic participation. There are pros and cons to that decision.”

“We would need to see what the implications would be on the Cricket World Cup.”

Lorgat said the biggest hurdle facing cricket’s return to the Olympics was the already packed playing schedule.

“If we were to introduce cricket into the Olympics, that is another extended period of time taken out of the calendar,” he said.

Lorgat added that the ICC was keen to limit the amount of Twenty20 cricket played at international level.

Argentina’s Lionel Messi has won the FIFA best player of the year 2011 award for the straight third time thereby registering his name as the only player in the history of FIFA to get three back to back awards.

Messi won the award beating his club teammate Xavi Hernandez and Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid to the game’s most prestigious individual honor.

Messi known for his heroics in the field said, “It’s a huge pleasure for me”, after accepting the trophy from another three-time winner, former Brazil forward Ronaldo. “It’s the third time I get this award, and it’s a huge honor.”

Messi received 47.88 percent of the points in votes cast by national team coaches and captains plus invited journalists. They chose from an original shortlist of 23 players.

Cristiano Ronaldo finished second with 21.6 percent and Xavi got 9.23 percent to finish third for the third straight year.

“This one is very special because I want to share this with my friend and teammate Xavi . He deserves it,” Messi said.

The only other three-time winners are Ronaldo (1996-97 and 2002) and Zinedine Zidane (1998, 2000 and 2003)

Australian Captain Michael Clarke made a brilliant triple hundred against India in the on going test match against India thereby joining the list of cricket most valued legends to score a triple hundred.

Scoring a Triple Hundred in test matches is never easy at all! No matter against which opposition you play Triple Hundred counts.

Congrats Clarke this is an exceptional show of brilliance :)

Australian team were considered out of form and cricketing legends expected Indian team to walk over with historic win in Australian soil.

But the youngster James Pattinson and the roaring legend Ricky Pointing gave India run for the money.

Kobe Bryant’s Wife To File For Divorce

Vanessa Bryant has filed divorce papers from her superstar husband, according to reports.

TMZ is reporting that Vanessa Bryant, Kobe’s wife of 10 years, has moved to end their marriage, citing “irreconcilable differences.” Vanessa has requested joint custody of their daughters Natalia Diamante and Gianna Maria-Onore, who are 8 and 5 years old, respectively.

“The Bryants have resolved all issues incident to their divorce privately with the assistance of counsel and a Judgment dissolving their marital status will be entered in 2012,” a representative said in a statement.

Kobe and the then-Vanessa Lane met while he was shooting a video for his hip-hop album, which was never released. Lane was a 17-year-old backup dancer who was still in high school. When Kobe and Vanessa married in 2001, his parents and sisters— who disapproved of the relationship — were not in attendance. In Shaquille O’Neal’s recently released memoir, Shaq says that none of Bryant’s teammates, with whom he had a rocky relationship, were invited to the wedding.

In 2003, Kobe was charged with raping a 19-year-old hotel employee at a Colorado resort. Before the case went to trial, Kobe settled out of court with the accuser for an undisclosed sum.

It was during the leadup to this trial that Kobe brought Vanessa an 8-carat purple diamond ring worth nearly $4 million.

“I know that my husband has made a mistake – the mistake of adultery,” Vanessa said in the statement at the time. “He and I will have to deal with that within our marriage, and we will do so. He is not a criminal.”
In a 2009 Esquire profile, Kobe and Vanessa were portrayed as a loving couple who were very protective of their young daughters. “Kobe tells me unabashedly that when he met her, it was love at first sight,” Mike Sager wrote. “Kobe calls her Mamacita. He holds her hand everywhere they go. Sometimes he speaks to her in Spanish.”

TMZ says the couple did not enter a pre-nuptial agreement. When his current contract ends, Kobe Bryant will have earned $280 million in NBA salaries. He has earned a substantial amount of money, perhaps in the hundreds of millions, from his product endorsement deals with companies like Nike and McDonald’s.

Mauer is Engaged!

Mauer, 28, the Twins catcher, proposed to his best friend Bisanz, a St. Paul nurse, in Sanibel, Florida.

“A place that is special to both of us,” Mauer said Sunday from Florida. “We couldn’t be happier, and we’re both really excited.

“I was hoping for a yes, and she said yes,” Mauer told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. “I’m getting to marry my best friend.”

No wedding date has been set.

Hopefully Mauer’s marriage will outlast the marriage of fellow Minnesotan Kris Humphries.

Good luck to the happy couple. May your life together be filled with joy and happiness.

Indian Cricketer and Captain Virender Sehwag has smashed a massive double century (219 runs) in One Day Internationals. He made the mind blowing  219 runs off 147 balls.

With this Double Century, Sehwag becomes only the Second, next to Sachin Tendulkar to score a Double Ton in the ODIs.

Sachin Tendulkar, who also plays for India,  was the first to achieve the massive double Century record in early 2010.

However, with the Score of 219 runs, Virender Sehwag not only becomes the second ever to score the Double Century record, but also makes him the only cricketer to attain the record for Highest Individual scorer in One Day International Cricket

I  leave you with the you tube video where Sehwag is shown celebrating his Double Century record.

Congrats Viru!  You deserve it.

Kurt Busch splits Penske Racing

Kurt Busch parted ways with Penske Racing after 6 seasons, from what we learned, It was a Mutual agreement between Kurt and the team to split.

“What’s troublesome is this five letter `f-i-r-e-d’ word is being used, but it’s obvious to me that looking back, I was very unhappy over the second half of the season,” Busch told the AP.

“I need to put the fun back into racing for me. I want to be a better driver and a better person. Today is the day that begins. I take a deep breath, I smile, and I move forward from here.”

In a telephone interview to USA Today, Kurt said, “This decision today is allowing me to take a deep breath and to work on things to make me a better driver and a better person”.

“I want to put the fun back into racing.”

So whats next for Kurt Busch?  I believe NASCAR humiliating him with a fine of over $50,000 might have taken a toll on him.

Will he now consider a career with NHRA?
