Camera that captures 1 Trillion Frames Per Second

Posted by Riz On December - 14 - 20111 COMMENT

A camera capable of visualising the movement of light has been unveiled by a team of scientists in the US.  Given a moment, the Camera could capture one trillion frames in a matter of Sec.

Whow! With the help of the Camera you can now capture the movement of Light itself. Pretty Cool! eh!! But how did they do it?

For readers who are in thoughts on how this  could be possible, the technology records a certain frame and goes on to repeat it  again and again until the effect is created.

Camera that captures 1 Trillion Frames Per Second

I have attached the video, where the MIT ‘s scientist are shown explaining the secret of the technology.

In the Video, you can note how the camera uses Streak camera, which is basically a slit that lets light pass through. The camera then uses a rapidly changing electrical field to deflect the light, measuring not just the photons coming through the slit, but also when they arrived. The result is a plot of light coming through that slit over time.

Direct recording of light is impossible at that speed, so the camera takes millions of repeated scans to recreate each image.

The methodology shows the main limitation of the system: It can only be used for recording something you can “shoot” over and over.

The team said the technique could be used to understand ultra fast processes.  The images have been turned into films lasting roughly 480 frames.

In the end though, using the power of technology and camera angles, they have perfectly managed to record the miraculous event.

Geminid meteor shower 2011

Posted by Riz On December - 14 - 2011ADD COMMENTS

Buckle Up! The 2011 Geminid meteor shower starts on the night of Dec. 13-14, and despite the glare of a nearly-full Moon, it will be party time for sky watchers.

“Observers with clear skies could see as many as 40 Geminids per hour,” predicts Bill Cooke of the NASA Meteoroid Environment Office.  “Our all-sky network of meteor cameras has captured several early Geminid fireballs.  They were so bright, we could see them despite the moonlight.”

The best time to look is between 10 pm local time on Tuesday, Dec. 13, and sunrise on Wednesday, Dec. 14th. Geminids, which spray out of the constellation Gemini, can appear anywhere in the sky. “Dress warmly and look up,” says Cooke.  “It’s that simple.”

The source of the Geminids is near-Earth asteroid 3200 Phaethon. Most meteor showers come from comets, so having an asteroid as a parent makes the Geminids a bit of an oddball.

“This is the thing I love most about Geminids,” says Cooke.  “They’re so strange.”

Every year in mid-December, Earth runs through a trail of dusty debris that litters the orbit of 3200 Phaethon. Comets vaporizing in hot sunlight naturally produce such debris trails, but rocky asteroids like 3200 Phaethon do not. At least they’re not supposed to. The incongruity has baffled researchers since 1983 when 3200 Phaethon was discovered by NASA’s IRAS satellite.

One clue: 3200 Phaethon travels unusually close to the sun. The asteroid’s eccentric orbit brings it well inside the orbit of Mercury every 1.4 years. The rocky body thus receives a regular blast of solar heating that might somehow boil jets of dust into the Geminid debris stream.

In 2009, NASA’s STEREO-A spacecraft saw this process at work.  Coronagraphs onboard the solar observatory watched 3200 Phaethon as it was swinging by the sun.  Sure enough, the asteroid doubled in brightness, probably because it was spewing jets of dust.

“The most likely explanation is that Phaethon ejected dust, perhaps in response to a break-down of surface rocks (through thermal fracture and decomposition cracking of hydrated minerals) in the intense heat of the Sun,” wrote UCLA planetary scientists David Jewitt and Jing Li, who analyzed the data.

Jewett and Li’s “rock comet” hypothesis is compelling, but they point out a problem: The amount of dust 3200 Phaethon ejected during its 2009 sun-encounter added a mere 0.01% to the mass of the Geminid debris stream–not nearly enough to keep the stream replenished over time. Perhaps the rock comet was more active in the past …?

“We just don’t know,” says Cooke. “Every new thing we learn about the Geminids seems to deepen the mystery.”

Dead Snake found in the Birthday Cake leaves cake lovers in astonishment.

A man from Allahabad,India purchased a Birthday Cake for his daughter not knowing what lies in  the cake.

lol! I think it  definitely must have been an accident. Who in the right mind would add a snake in the Cake!!!!

I believe the root of this incident, will be the carelessness by the manufacturer.

Che, People buy their products in hope that the product is well made and hygienic. This incident however, would make even a Cake lover wonder on whether to buy cake next time

Anyway, the incident has made an internet sensation. What will be your first reaction if you find a dead snake in your cake..?

Indian Cricketer and Captain Virender Sehwag has smashed a massive double century (219 runs) in One Day Internationals. He made the mind blowing  219 runs off 147 balls.

With this Double Century, Sehwag becomes only the Second, next to Sachin Tendulkar to score a Double Ton in the ODIs.

Sachin Tendulkar, who also plays for India,  was the first to achieve the massive double Century record in early 2010.

However, with the Score of 219 runs, Virender Sehwag not only becomes the second ever to score the Double Century record, but also makes him the only cricketer to attain the record for Highest Individual scorer in One Day International Cricket

I  leave you with the you tube video where Sehwag is shown celebrating his Double Century record.

Congrats Viru!  You deserve it.

Scams to watch out this Christmas!

Posted by Riz On December - 3 - 2011ADD COMMENTS

Christmas is around the corner, so does Scams. Each and every year, People become victims to Online scams. Christmas scams is of no exception to the long list.

So, here we attempt to give you some tips on how to avoid scams this Christmas.

Here we go.

Fake holiday help. Getting a seasonal job can be a great idea. In fact, it is one of our 5 Best Ways to Make More Money. But there are people out there preying on those who need work. Common scams to look out for include all manner of work-from-home jobs. If the so-called employer asks for money up front or your Social Security number, you might be on the verge of becoming a victim rather than an employee.

Fake charities. Don’t ever, ever, ever give money to any charity – even spare change – without checking them out first. And that’s something you can’t do if someone’s on your porch, at an intersection, or on the sidewalk asking for money. Read 4 Tips to Find the Right Charity, then visit the FTC’s website for a charity checklist.

Fake check scams. If someone is giving you money, how can you be scammed? The answer involvesfake checks. In these instances, buyers want what you’re selling on sites like eBay or Craigslist. Their next step is to offer you a cashier’s check for more than your asking price, on the condition that you return the difference. Weeks later, you are informed by your bank that the check was a phony, and you’re now out your money and your goods. The American Bankers Association has some tips to avoid being a victim, but in short, avoid cashier’s checks in situations like this and never return any difference in cash.

Counterfeit merchandise. In New York and other major cities, it is common to see street vendors selling fake watches and purses that appear to be high-end, name-brand goods. The modern version of these scams is to sell the merchandise online where the buyer has even less opportunity to inspect it. As Stacy said, beware of items that are priced well below their competitors, and be sure to buy from an authorized retailer.

Fake vacation rentals. This growing scam involves people who advertise a property they don’t even own! Sometimes the scammer goes to the effort of hijacking the real owner’s email, like in this case recently reported in The Washington Post. Other times, the scammers merely show pictures of a place they pretend to represent. You send them money and show up to find you’ve got no place to stay. Solution? Take every possible step to ensure you’re dealing with the true owner of the property, and always pay by credit card, not wire transfer.

Email scams. Many scams start with email, so be especially skeptical of anything that shows up in your inbox. Some messages involve references to recent events, such as a natural disaster or the death of a public figure. Others purport to award lottery winnings or the transfer of wealth from a foreign country. Don’t ever respond to unsolicited email.

Phishing scams. An email from a legitimate company, like your bank, insists you log in to their website. You’re then directed to a copycat site that steals your username and password. If you ever doubt any email, don’t reply. Instead, call the company or open up a new browser window and go directly to their website. Check out these anti-phishing tips from the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Bottom line? Ninety-nine percent of scams happen when we’re too gullible, too greedy, in too much of a hurry, or when we’re feeling especially charitable. Be generous…but be vigilant.

Bollywood star Aamir Khan Wednesday said the issue of malnutrition is ‘foremost’ to him and that there is a lot be done to tackle the problem which is severely affecting children all over the country.

‘I realize there is a lot to be done and I hope that by lending my voice I can make a difference to the lives of children and thereby to the future of our country,’ Aamir told reporters here after being appointed as UNICEF’s brand ambassador to promote nutrition for children.

‘This issue is foremost to me and I hope this initiative is successful,’ he added.

The nationwide campaign, which plans to reach millions of children in the country, would use popular mediums like TV, newspapers, radio, paintings and collaboration with the Anganvadi scheme for maximum exposure.

‘If a newborn child is not physically and mentally healthy, we start on a bad foot,’ said the 46-year-old star who has been attached to the cause for the past year.

‘I have worked with UNICEF, government, ad filmmaker Prasoon Joshi and the citizen’s alliance against malnutrition — a group of MP’s from various political outfits on the issue,’ said Aamir known for his films like ‘Taare Zameen Par’, ‘Ghajini’ and ’3 Idiots’.

UNICEF representative in India, Karin Hulshof, appreciating Khan’s commitment towards the cause and kids said: ‘India is an emerging superpower but rights of children remain to be fulfilled. With Aamir’s help we can reach out to more parents and children.’
