American government finally sees the  economy lose and unemployment rise that the country is facing.

Ohio state government takes the first step in the outsourcing saga, by completely banning the  project’s outsourcing to foreign land.  Now, this means one message, “Bye Bye Asians”

Ohio governor Ted Strickland said in an executive order passed last month,”There are pervasive service delivery problems with offshore providers, including dissatisfaction with the quality of their services and with the fact that services are being provided offshore,”

Though other states have not yet taken any decision on banning the outsourcing, State of Ohio brave move may motivate them to do so in future.

And why not? Seeing its own people in misery and unemployed, the government should come up with some thing like this.

I have an hunch West Virginia will follow state of Ohio. The reason for that will be the lawsuit filed by West Virginia Public Workers Union against the states office of technology for outsourcing the IT jobs when its own people is in trouble.

I think the happy days for Indian Companies may come to end citing  the outsourcing ban.

mayor daley says retirement

Mayor Richard M. Daley of Chicago said Tuesday that he would not run for re-election when his term expires next year, an announcement that could have implications from the Windy City to the White House.

“I’ve done my all. I’ve done my best,” Mr. Daley told reporters during a news conference at City Hall in Chicago. “Now, I’m ready with my family to begin the new phase of our lives.”

The news created an immediate stir inside the West Wing.

“No mayor in America has loved a city more or served a community with greater passion than Rich Daley,” President Obama said in a statement. “He helped build Chicago’s image as a world class city, and leaves a legacy of progress that will be appreciated for generations to come.”

Rahm Emanuel, the chief of staff to President Obama, has talked openly about his desire to run for mayor of his hometown. He has said that he would only consider running if Mr. Daley decided to step aside.

“One day I would like to run for mayor of the city of Chicago,” Mr. Emanuel said during an April interview on “The Charlie Rose Show.”

“First of all, let me say it this way: I hope Mayor Daley seeks re-election. I will work and support him if he seeks re-election,” Mr. Emanuel said at the time. “But if Mayor Daley doesn’t, one day I would like to run for mayor of the city of Chicago.”

In a statement on Tuesday afternoon, Mr. Emanuel said that he was surprised by the announcement. He did not say whether he intended to run, but he does not have much time to make a decision, with the election set for Feb. 22, 2011.

“While Mayor Daley surprised me today with his decision to not run for reelection, I have never been surprised by his leadership, dedication and tireless work on behalf of the city and the people of Chicago,” Mr. Emanuel said in a statement.

Mr. Emanuel, a former congressman from Chicago’s North Side, has told friends that he planned to stay in the White House until at least next summer. But the news from Mr. Daley, which caught many Democrats by surprise, could change the calculation.

“The truth is, I have been thinking about this for the past several months,” Mr. Daley told reporters in Chicago. “In the end, this is a personal decision, no more, no less.”

Mr. Daley, who in 1989 followed in his father’s footsteps to become mayor of Chicago, has been one of the more colorful and powerful mayors in the country. As he made his announcement on Tuesday, his wife, Maggie, stood by his side with the help of a crutch, the Chicago Tribune reported. She has been battling breast cancer for years.

“Simply put, it’s time,” Mr. Daley told reporters. “Time for me, it’s time for Chicago to move on.”

Mr. Daley, 68, will become the longest-serving mayor of Chicago on Dec. 26, 2010, surpassing the tenure of 21 years and eight months that his father, Richard J. Daley, recorded.

Mr. Emanuel, should he decide to run for mayor, would hardly have a clear path to the office. Several Chicago aldermen have been eying the office, in case Mr. Daley decided to step aside, and so have several other Democratic officials in Chicago, including the Cook County Assessor, Jim Houlihan, and the Cook County Sheriff, Tom Dart.

The primary is scheduled to take place next February, a timeline that does not allow Mr. Emanuel or other potential candidates much time to settle their plans. A new wave of senior advisers is expected to join the Obama administration after the November election, when the Democratic majority in Congress could shrink – or vanish.

The majority of the US corporates believes America is not left with local talents and hence they justify their claim to hire Indians for the job.

Cognizant says that it has 57 recruitment staff in the U.S. looking for local engineers but due to unavailability of skilled workers in U.S., the company is forced to import Indians on work visas, reports Joe Leahy from Financial Times

“If you look at the core of what we do, the technology work, the US simply doesn’t have the talent base today. Although unemployment in the US today is high, IT unemployment is still very low,” said Francisco D’Souza, President and Chief Executive, Cognizant.

The border security law was passed by U.S. last month, that will be partly funded by doubling the cost of visas for IT workers, a move that will mostly affect Indian outsourcing companies.

Indian outsourcing companies support a bulk of their staff in India and keep some of its employees in the U.S., who would work closely with the clients.

“About 70 per cent of US PhD students are foreign born and are often hired in the US, making their way into Silicon Valley or government agencies such as Nasa,” said Partha Iyengar, of Gartner, the consultancy. “The bigger challenge for the US is, if they start to lose this talent at the lower end, the innovation engine that has been driving the economy starts to dry up,” Iyengar added.

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, India’s undergraduate university courses produce about 600,000 engineers a year compared with about 84,000 in the U.S. in the academic year of 2007-08.

S.Gopalakrishnan, Chief Executive of Infosys Technologies, India’s second-largest IT company, said the group had 10,000 staff in the U.S. but only 1,600 were nationals or permanent residents. The company wanted to hire 1,000 people a year in the US but faced a scarcity of talent. “It is a struggle,” he said.

US on the brink of becoming a Third World Country?

Looks like the American way of Living, popularly advertised as the American Dream is taking a beating right now.

American standard of living was popularly advertised as the highest standard of living in the world in the 50s and 60s. Here is a banner proving it :

There is no way like the American Way

There is no way like the American Way, really ??

It used to be, there is no denying that. But more recently during the past decade its debt seems to be increasing at an alarming rate. The unemployment rate seems to be showing no improvement after the recent recession in 2008. In fact its only increasing, now US unemployment rate stands at 9.6%. Its down from Jan 2010 of 10.6% but up from May 2010 of 9.3%.

You really can’t trust these official figures. The truth is that things are far worse then they look.

According to Spiegel Online, the United States is recently faced with a new phenomenon called “the new poor.”

In Ventura California — a luxurious resort city — about 20 percent of the residents are at risk of homelessness.

The once-rich, who have lost their homes, are now forced to sleep in their expensive cars parked in the city’s corners, Captain William Finley, the head of the local branch of the Salvation Army said.

He further added that during the past months, the number of people taking advantage of the organization’s free meals program, has doubled. Many drive up in their BMWs to receive free food, he went on to say.

Another signal that marks the demise of America’s so-called greatness is the disappearance of the middle class.

During recent years, the gap between the rich and poor has increased at a staggering pace, systematically wiping the existence of the middle class from America.

Income inequality in the US has reached a stage where only one percent of Americans own as much as 37 percent of the total national wealth.

That means that if an average CEO earned 30 times as much as an ordinary worker in 1950, today he would own 300 times as much.

So far, US politicians have failed to come up with solutions to the growing crisis.

“The lights are going out all over America,” Nobel economics laureate Paul Krugman wrote last month. This is due to the fact that many US residents can no longer spend money because they have no savings.

As a result, many state and local governments are faced with enormous budget deficits. In Hawaii, schools are closed on some Fridays to save the state money. A county in Georgia has eliminated all public bus services and in Colorado Springs, a city of 380,000 people, a third of streetlights have been shut off to save electricity.

In fact, the United States, which is in the wake of a huge debt crisis of above 90% of GDP, is threatened by a social Ice Age more severe than anything the country has seen since the Great Depression.

This is why last month, a leading online columnist, Arianna Huffington, issued the almost apocalyptic warning that “America is in danger of becoming a Third World country.”
