Just taking some time to greet you all on New Year.

Google loses the Canadian Groovle case

Posted by Shane On December - 30 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

Been a sad 2009 year for google. Not only it faced advertisers downfall and rivals uprising but also the imitation of  its own domain name.

A Canadian small business company named 207 media, has open a domain in the name of  Groovle.com for serving the  goal of search engine purpose.

Well, if your thinking that its a new search engine, then let me put it this way.

Groovle.com uses google search engine bar in the page for search. So Legally, they are using googles search operation.

The additional feature in Groovle.com is that, the website will allow the user to select an image or they can upload any image from the system and make it their desirable homepage and then proceed to search. If your unclear in this , have a peep on the image i have loaded.

In my image, i selected  planet earth picture and created a home page of my desirable. Come to think on it,  do you think it resembles the  features of Bing.com.      lol :)

Courts  Judgement:

Well, google sued groovle in the court and ask the jury to give the groovle domain to google. The Jury though dismissed the claim.

This is only the second time out of  65 cases where google has been refund on their request.

The three judges who was appointed for this case  said the name was not similar enough to confuse people and the word ‘groovle’ was more closely linked to “groovy” or “groove” rather than Google.

Not a good year after all. Right Google!!!

Michael Jackson's Thriller

The red leather jacket. The yellow eyes. The zombies. The dance. That laugh. Think what you want about the late man himself, but videos don’t come much more culturally significant than Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.”

Which is exactly why the Library of Congress has seen fit to include the groundbreaking 1983 music video as one of the 25 films to be added to the National Film Registry this year.

The preserving body typically selects films that are “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant.” Not to mention films that are, well, actual films.

This year’s crop joins 500 other motion pictures that have been selected to be saved in perpetuity since the NFR was created in 1989. Rather than a mere “best of” list, the registry inducts films that served to spotlight American creativity in cinema and are at least 10 years old.

Here are this year’s selections:

• Dog Day Afternoon (1975)
• The Exiles
(1961)
• Heroes All
(1920)
• Hot Dogs for Gauguin (1972)
• The Incredible Shrinking Man
(1957)
• Jezebel
(1938)
• The Jungle (1967)
• The Lead Shoes (1949)
• Little Nemo (1911)
• Mabel’s Blunder
(1914)
• The Mark of Zorro (1940)
• Mrs. Miniver
(1942)
• The Muppet Movie (1979)
• Once Upon a Time in the West (1968)
• Pillow Talk (1959)
• Precious Images (1986)
• Quasi at the Quackadero (1975)
• The Red Book (1994)
• The Revenge of the Pancho Villa
(1930-36)
• Scratch and Crow (1995)
• Stark Love (1927)
• The Story of G.I. Joe (1945)
• A Study in Reds (1932)
• Thriller
(1983)
• Under Western Stars (1938)

Ironically, Hart and Neidhart, who teamed together as the Hart Foundation in the early 90s, are currently the only surviving members of the faction.

Was taught the sharpshooter submission hold (AKA the scorpion death lock) by Konann.

When Hart first entered the World Wrestling Federation the original idea for his character was that of a cowboy and he would ride a horse to the ring. He refused to portray the character and was eventually paired up with his brother-in-law Jim Neidhart to be the Hart Foundation. Ironically, Hart would eventually portray a cowboy on the “Lonesome Dove: The Outlaw Years” (1995) TV series.

Trained former WWE Superstar ‘Andrew “Test’ Martin’.

As a child he defended his sister Georgia’s honor against a bully at school. After Bret won the fight, the other children hoisted him up on their shoulders. Vince McMahon heard of the incident, and decided after Bret won the WWF Title at WrestleMania X (1994) (TV) to send out the other superstars to hoist him up on their shoulders. Needless to say, it reminded Bret of the incident as a child.

Good friends with Scott D’Amore, who runs Border City Wrestling, as well as books for NWA Total Nonstop Action Wrestling

Began as a referee in the his father’s wrestling promotion before moving on to a wrestler

Has since patched things up with Vince McMahon over the infamous Montreal Screw Job, however he still holds a strong resentment towards Shawn Michaels and Triple H who were informed of the decision to end the match prior to the pay-per-view.

Got the idea for his catch phrase “The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be,” from the Robert Redford movie, “The Natural”.

He was originally going to play Batman in “Batman Triumphant” before production was canceled because Batman & Robin (1997) failed at the box-office.

Between 1988 and 1997, competed at nine Summerslam events (missing only 1996). In seven of the those nine events, he was either wrestling a champion or a champion himself. Attended Vincent Massey Junior High School in Calgary.

Has stated in several interviews one of his biggest regrets was leaving the WWE for WCW. For the main reason he was “poorly used” while he was with the company.

A clip of him applying his Sharpshooter finishing hold on Chris Benoit appears in the opening credits sequence of every episode of Malcolm in the Middle.

Shortly after his departure from the WWF, he was contacted about appearing in ECW but he declined due to the inability to reach a financial agreement.

Personal Quotes

I am the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be”

You scratch my back and I’ll stab yours.

I don’t respect you. You don’t deserve it.

[about "modern" wrestling] My kids don’t watch wrestling. They don’t want to. And if they did want to, as a parent, I wouldn’t let them. I’ve said before, and I’ll say it again: wrestling is not for kids anymore.

I still take being a positive role model for kids very seriously, and I even enjoy the responsibility that goes along with it.

No one is more proud of being Canadian that I am.

We are never prepared for what we expect.

Every hero becomes a bore at last.

[after winning the WWE Championship for the first time] I dedicate this moment to anyone who still believes the biggest dreams still come true.

Google sued by Chinese author Mian Mian

Posted by Tommy On December - 29 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

The Big G has been sued by a Chinese author Mian Mian. Mian Mian sued Google in October after Google scanned one of her books, Acid House, and added it to Google’s Library.

Google said it had removed the book as soon as it learned of the lawsuit, but had no further comment on the case.

She is seeking damages of 61,000 yuan ($8,950; £5,576) and a public apology.

A Beijing judge has told the Chinese novelist Mian Mian, who is suing Google over its plan to create an online library, to hold settlement talks. After a two-hour hearing, the court ordered both sides to talk but did not set a deadline for reporting back, according to the author’s lawyer.

Mian Mian writes risque novels – including titles such as Panda Sex and Candy – about China’s underworld of sex, drugs and nightlife. Most of her work is banned in China.

She is not alone in complaining about copyright issues raised by Google’s online library. The China Written Works Copyright Society is also looking for compensation for other Chinese authors whose work is included in the project.

In France, a court ordered Google to stop digitising French books without the publisher’s approval. The search engine was also told to pay 300,000 euros ($430,000; £268,000) in damages and interest to French company La Martiniere, which had sued for copyright infringement for scanning book excerpts.

In the US, Google agreed a $125m settlement with American authors and publishers – although this is still waiting for final court approval.

Methuen Woman Sees Jesus On Her Iron

Methuen Woman Sees Jesus On Her Iron

A Massachusetts woman who recently separated from her husband, had her hours at work cut, and moved into an apartment, says an image of Jesus Christ she sees on her iron has reassured her that “life is going to be good.”

Mary Jo Coady first noticed the image on Sunday when she walked into her daughter’s room.

The brownish residue on the bottom of the iron looks like the face of a man with long hair.

The 44-year-old Coady, who was raised Catholic, and her two college-age daughters agree that the image looks like Jesus and is proof that “he’s listening.”

Coady tells The Eagle-Tribune she hopes her story will inspire others during the holidays. She says she plans to keep the iron in a closet and buy a new one.
