The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

Summit Entertainment’s “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” has failed to eclipse an opening-day domestic boxoffice record set by franchise predecessor “The Twilight Saga: New Moon.”

“Eclipse” rung up $68.5 million in Wednesday coin. That set a new record for first-day boxoffice on a Wednesday, featuring more than $30 million in grosses from 4,416 theaters programming the vampire-romance threequel for midnight Tuesday performances.

But “New Moon” rose to $72.7 million during its first day in release on Friday, Nov. 21, part of a $142.8 million first weekend for the first sequel and its $296.6 million domestic run. So “Eclipse” fell $4.2 million short of matching that for “New Moon.”

“Eclipse” is expected to ring up more than $150 million through Monday from a record 4,468 theaters playing the pic starting Friday. Whatever its Friday-Monday haul, “Eclipse” should easily top boxoffice rankings during the four-day Independence Day weekend.

Elsewhere at domestic multiplexes, Paramount bowed 3D family adventure “The Last Airbender” on Thursday and registered $3 million in midnight Wednesday performances. The M. Night Shyamalan-directed pic is expected to fetch $50 million or so through Monday.

Sharad Pawar takes charge as ICC President

Sharad Pawar on Thursday assumed office as President of the International Cricket Council (ICC) at its annual conference here. The Union Agriculture Minister and former President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India succeeded David Morgan after serving as the ICC Vice-President since 2008.

Mr. Pawar is only the second Indian, after Jagmohan Dalmiya, to have become the highest executive of the world cricket body.

Soon after taking over as the seventh President of the ICC for a two-year term, Mr. Pawar said at a press conference here that he was “chosen” for this post during a “challenging” period.

On the ICC Executive Board’s rejection of John Howard for the post of next Vice-President, Mr. Pawar said Cricket Australia and New Zealand Cricket were asked to reconsider their nomination of the former Australian Prime Minister. “We will wait for their recommendation by August 31, 2010.”

Not a political decision

Fielding a volley of questions on the Howard issue, Mr. Pawar said: “What is the (imputed) political connotation? Where is the question of a political decision? No, no: not at all… I was a supporter of the process for electing the ICC vice-president. I remain a supporter of the process… The question is not that.”

ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat said “there was not sufficient support” for Mr. Howard’s candidature which was, therefore, not put to vote at the board meeting that preceded the annual conference.

Asked whether the ICC was in a very fragile state now because of the rejection of Mr. Howard’s candidature, Mr. Pawar said: “We do not see it that way. That is not the situation at all.” The Howard issue was decided in “a democratic set-up.”

Focus on expansion

On his defining agenda as the new president, Mr. Pawar said, “Basically, the three formats of the game are quite popular in different parts. Our total thinking is to see how the game will be expanded in other parts of the world.”

Citing China, the United States and some parts of Europe and Africa as places with “tremendous scope for cricket,” he said “our thrust area will be to see how we will be able to expand our base.”

It was decided “to shift the ICC headquarters to London, Lord’s, if possible,” and there “is no proposal to go to either Mumbai or Singapore,” said Mr. Pawar.

On whether there was a move to monitor the Indian Premier League, Mr. Haroon Lorgat said: “The ICC cannot oversee domestic events.”

Bucks Sign Drew Gooden

Posted by Riz On July - 1 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

Drew Gooden, a journeyman power forward who spent last season between the Mavericks and Clippers, will sign a five-year mid-level exception deal worth $32 million with the Milwaukee Bucks, according to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski.

Gooden, who will turn 29 before the start of next season, becomes the first American player to reportedly reach an agreement since the official start of the 2010 NBA free agency period at midnight Thursday. The 6’10 forward-center finished 2009-10 in Los Angeles after being sent to Washington in the Caron Butler-Brendan Haywood-Josh Howard trade at midseason. Before Gooden played a single game for the Wizards, he was flipped to L.A. in an expanded Antawn Jamison deal that sent Al Thornton to D.C. and Sebastian Telfair to Cleveland.

If the contract is consummated, the Bucks would officially be Gooden’s ninth team in a eight-year career. Gooden was drafted No. 4 overall in 2002 by the Grizzlies but traded to Cleveland during his rookie season. In 2004, he was traded to the Cavaliers. Since 2008, he has been traded to the Bulls, Kings and Clippers; he signed a midseason deal with the Spurs in 2009 and signed a one-year partially guaranteed deal with the Mavericks last summer.

Last season, the Bucks played Ersan Ilyasova at power forward primarily. The Turk started 31 games for Milwaukee, and performed well, becoming one of the better defensive rebounding power forwards in the league. Fellow second-year player Luc Richard Mbah a Moute also spent time at power forward, and the Bucks’ June trade for small forward Corey Maggette was expected to push the Cameroonian into even more minutes at PF. But Gooden’s acquisition would throw a wrench in that. It’s possible the Bucks could play Maggette as shooting guard, if the team can’t convince John Salmons to stay in town.

GM John Hammond told FanHouse Wednesday that the Bucks do want to keep Salmons. Milwaukee has Salmons’ Bird rights and can go over the salary cap — which they currently are — to retain him.

Gooden is a useful player, though considering just a year ago no team would offer him more than an unguaranteed one-year deal worth $4 million, springing for the full mid-level seems awfully hasty, especially considering power forward does not seem to be a need position in Milwaukee. Gooden just does not seem like a player you rush toward in the first hours of what should be a long free agency period.

Who is  the new anonymous general manager of wwe raw?– This is a very good question.

Though we have not known who is this anonymous guy,we can go forward with some closer hunch on this topic.

Who is that guy for which WWE episodes are paving way such an heroic entry?

The NXT rookies, now called as The Nexus has attacked each and every person of WWE . Not only John Cena, the list includes Vince McMahon, the hall of famers  Ricky ” The dragon Steamboat”,  Jerry the King Lawyer, the ring announcer, camera man, and the list goes on.

Why is WWE management quiet?

You know it dude, WWE  wants to spotlight a person to look like hero. The question is who is him?

I have a serious hunch it must be The Rock.

I don’t think it might be Triple H, because for one factor it has been rumored all along internet that Triple will lead the group against the Nexus once he returned back to WWE.

When will triple H return?

He will return once his movie shoot is over.

I have to say this, i think John Cena is  eager to be the leader of the group against the nexus. He seems so desperate for the position that he even made truce with Sheamus and openly asked help to attack the nexus.

I don’t think John Cena will be made the leader because for a fact it will be Triple H or DX or Chris Jericho.

I mentioned Chris Jericho because there is a link with him. Its been reported that WWE management is very unhappy with Chris Jericho for his offer with ABC show. They think  Chris Jericho may leave WWE and concentrate more on that show. In order to stick Jericho towards WWE,  he may be the lucky spot light guy which he so much dreads to become.

Update:

Stone Cold Steve Austin is the new GM. I say it with certain incident. Click here to know my reasons

The bassist of rock band Madina Lak, Matthew Leone tried to defend his wife from  an unknown person who was beating her badly. He saved his wife though but ended up seriously injured.

Man! what will you call this. True love of course

Nathan Leone, the band’s singer and Matthew’s brother, said that the bassist was left unconscious after trying to stop a man beating his wife in the street.

“A few nights ago, Matthew walked from my apartment a block and a half down the street to meet a friend for a drink. Half way there he saw a man severely beating his wife. Being the most amazing, strong, heroic and incredible person I know … even though the guy was twice his size, Matthew intervened. He managed to subdue this guy for a second and, since his wife was beat up, called the cops … as he did so the guy jumped him from behind and beat him. This guy did things I can’t even type.”

Madina Lake formed in Chicago in 2005 and have been championed by Kerrang! magazine. Heartfelt messages of support have been pouring in via Twitter.

LostInCweameeee said: “Can’t get what happened to Matthew Leone out my head. Nobody should pay such a price for being a hero.”

According to his brother, Leone had to have a third of his skull removed. “We don’t know enough details yet about how that will develop. He acted as a hero (as he always would in any of these situations) and is paying a horrific price.”

You have our prayers Leone  recover soon and come back healthy
