Dick clark’s rockin new years eve 2011

With another year coming to a close and a new one set to begin, ABC is giving us an opportunity to look back at some of the ball-drop moments of previous years as well as a few brief segments of Dick Clark as host of the classic New Year’s Rockin’ Eve special.

Ryan Seacrest and Dick Clark are teaming up again to host the New Year’s celebration on the East Coast this weekend, with Jenny McCarthy serving as Times Square Correspondent.

It is An annual musical event from Times Square in New York City, to ring out the old year and ring in the New Year.

Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest 2011: The guys hold down the fort in New York, while Fergie hosts the Los Angeles portion of a bicoastal celebration that includes performances by Jennifer Hudson, Drake and Train. 10 p.m., ABC.

New Year 2011 approaches! So does the ghost of  high alcohol consumption , not only from adults but also from underage people.

In fact, a recent US study warns the high risk factor of more youngsters consuming alcohol this New Year day then the previous New Year.

Wierd!

According to the latest statistics, there were an estimated 1,980 visits to emergency rooms in the United States on Jan. 1, 2009 related to underage drinking, nearly four times the 546 such visits on an average day that year.

“That’s a big jump,” said Frances Harding, director of the Center for Mental Health Services at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, or SAMHSA, whose department released the study.

Emergency visits involving underage drinking around New Year’s Eve exceeded those of two other popular U.S. holidays — Memorial Day weekend and the Fourth of July weekend.

The data was collected by the Drug Abuse Warning Network, a public health surveillance system that monitors drug-related hospital emergency room visits.

Harding’s team said the New Year’s holiday may be especially risky because teenagers and young adults under the legal drinking age of 21 may drink more during this holiday than other times of the year.

Holidays generally involve greater access to alcohol and lax parental oversight, the report said.

“Parents need to be very clear in giving their children under the age of 21 the message that it’s not acceptable for them to be drinking,” Harding said in a telephone interview.

“It’s against the law because it’s dangerous. It is hard for young people to hear but it is true.”

Each year, she said, there are more than 5,000 deaths in the United States related to underage drinking.

Jazz Pianist Billy Taylor Dies at 89

Billy Taylor

Billy Taylor dies at 89.

Billy Taylor, the noted jazz pianist and educator who enjoyed tremendous success on television, has died. He was 89.

Taylor died Tuesday of heart failure in New York, his daughter, Kim Taylor-Thompson, told The New York Times.

A longtime fixture on television unlike many of his contemporaries, Taylor served as cultural correspondent on CBS News’ Sunday Morning and was the first African-American to lead a talk-show band when he was bandleader for The David Frost Show from 1969 to ’72.

He first made his mark on TV in 1958 as the musical director of NBC’s The Subject Is Jazz, the first TV series that covered jazz.

Born in North Carolina and raised in Washington, D.C., Taylor earned a doctorate in music education from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and preferred to be called Doctor Taylor.

He got his start playing with Ben Webster’s Quartet in 1943 in New York’s Three Deuces, where he performed for years afterward. He formed his own trio in 1951 and started lecturing at jazz music schools.

A year after The Subject Is Jazz launched, Taylor was hired as a DJ at a WLIB, Harlem-based radio station, before moving onto NPR, at which he worked for more than two decades. There, he hosted Jazz Alive and Billy Taylor’s Jazz at the Kennedy Center.

Taylor also taught jazz at Long Island University, the Manhattan School of Music and other institutions. Among his 300-plus compositions was the gospel theme “I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free,” which became an unofficial anthem of the civil rights movement in the 1960s.

A recipient of more than 20 honorary doctorates, Taylor also won two Peabodys, an Emmy for his work on Sunday Morning, a Grammy, and was elected into the Hall of Fame for the International Association for Jazz Education.

In addition to his daughter, Taylor is survived by his wife, Theodora. His son, Duane, died in 1988.

Chris Brown — Racial, Gay Slurs in Twitter Feud

So much for anger management … Chris Brown just unloaded an offensive, scathing Twitter attack on a former member of the R&B group B2K … and it had to do with comments about Rihanna.

Chris Brown VS B2K

Chris Brown VS B2K On Twitter!

Brown got into it with singer Raz B — after Raz tweeted Brown, “Im just sittin here Thinking how can n**gas like [Eric Benet] and [Chris Brown] disrespect women as Intelligent as Halle Berry, Rihanna.”

Brown immediately lashed back — writing, “n**ga you want attention! Grow up n**ga!!! Dick in da booty ass lil boy.”

Brown is clearly referring to allegations Raz had made a while back — in which he clamis he was molested by his band’s male manager.

Brown continued his attack — and then tried to explain himself … tweeting, “I’m not homophobic! He’s just disrespectful!!!”

As we previously reported, Brown had recently posted a photo of his diploma from his court-ordered anger management program.

Brown is still on probation for another couple of years.

Jim Toth and Reese Witherspoon engaged

Posted by Riz On December - 28 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth are engaged to be married, their representative confirmed to Us Weekly.

The pair began dating in January after Witherspoon broke up with Jake Gyllenhaal. Toth, 40, is an agent at Creative Arts Agency, where Witherspoon is a client, though not his.

Witherspoon was married to actor Ryan Phillippe for seven years — they divorced in 2008 — and the pair have two children: daughter Ava, 11, and son Deacon, 7.

Witherspoon opened up about the divorce to Entertainment Weekly earlier this month, saying:

“It definitely sometimes feels like a suit that I wish I could zip off. But I don’t feel bad about any of the things I’ve gone through, whether it’s divorce or breakups or anything like that, because that’s all part of the life journey, and I have those experiences just like anyone else. And I think it deepens what you tap into creatively.”
