UFC 125 results: Rematch is expected!

Posted by Riz On January - 2 - 2011ADD COMMENTS

UFC President Dana White has refused to give Gray Maynard an immediate rematch after he fought light weight champ Frankie Edgar to a split decision draw.

Instead White will stick to his plans announced before the event to allow the final WEC light weight champion Anthony Pettis to get an immediate title shot to unify the WEC and UFC belts.

This may be a lucky break for Edgar who was very nearly finished by Gray Maynard in the first round.

Pettis is coming off a huge win in a five round war with Ben Henderson at WEC 53. He ended that fight with the now classic “Showtime Kick” off the cage.

Many pundits, including Bloody Elbow’s Jonathan Snowden are calling for Maynard to get an immediate rematch:

Unfortunately, we will all be losers because of the UFC’s insistence on booking fights so far in advance. We just saw a championship fight end in a draw, not a boring fight that no one wants to see again, but an action packed extravaganza. Should Frankie Edgar really go from this to fighting the WEC’s lameduck champion Anthony Pettis?

I like Pettis for his potential and think he has a bright future. But why should he be given a title shot when he’s never beaten a legitimate top ten fighter? We don’t need to see Edgar-Pettis. We need to see Edgar vs. Maynard III and we need to see it as soon as possible.

I implore you to write to Dana White on twitter and ask him to do the right thing. Pettis can wait until there is a true winner in this epic battle between Edgar and Maynard. I, for one, would like five more rounds of top notch action from the best fighters on the planet. Let the champion and his challenger settle the score first – then give Pettis his time in the spotlight. This is what the sport has been waiting for, our first chance at an epic trilogy, the kind that define legacies in boxing. Let’s see it Dana.

Gareth Davis of the Telegraph (UK) says Maynard was “robbed of the belt”:

Frankie Edgar retained the UFC lightweight title by split points draw after an enthralling battle with Gray Maynard, weathering a heavy storm from the challenger and being put down three times in the opening round. Edgar recovered brilliantly in the second and surprisingly outwrestled the challenger throughout, yet a draw pleased no-one after five absorbing see-sawing rounds.

Maynard may feel robbed by the decision. It may have been drawn on the cards, but he certainly won the fight itself, inflicting serious damage on the lightweight champion.

It was one of the most compelling title battles in UFC history, technique, heart and great cardio to the fore. Edgar was taken down only a handful of times by a man who had taken him down 14 times in their only previous meeting  (Maynard the victor), and yet the champion may face pressure to move down to featherweight.

Jasper Howard death remembered!

Posted by Riz On January - 1 - 2011ADD COMMENTS

Jasper Howard was laid to rest 14 months ago after being fatally stabbed, just hours after UConn’s win over the Louisville Cardinals.

However, the Huskies remember his impact on the team, and have chosen to honor him with banners and a pre-game tribute.

In the UConn locker room hangs a sign that reads, “Play every play like it’s the last play you’ll ever play,” words Howard reportedly spoke before the Louisville game, that would truly prove to be his last game.

UConn defensive tackle Kendall Reyes admitted to Newsok.com that he and teammates think about their slain teammate every day.

“He’s a big part of where we are, and he’s still with us. It was our goal when he was here to get to the BCS. It’s really special we finally made it.”

The night of Connecticut’s win over Louisville 35-28, Howard went to a school dance with friends. According to the police report, Howard was fatally stabbed following a confrontation and subsequent fight with someone who said something inappropriate to a girl. The Police has since arrested the primary suspect in the case, John Lomax III, who is awaiting trial on murder charges. Lomax III maintains he is not the man who stabbed Howard.

Rio de Janerio releases 2016 Olympics Logo

Posted by Riz On January - 1 - 2011ADD COMMENTS

Brazil is all set to host 2016 Olympic games. In this process, she has unveiled the official Olympics logo for the 2016  games in front of million fans and media.

Boy, it was thrilling.

Carlos Nuzman, president of the Rio Olympic organizing committee said, “The logo for Rio’s 2016 Games conveys passion and transformation. The passion of all Cariocas and Brazilians for sport and celebration. “Carioca” being a nickname for Rio’s citizens. And the transformation that the Games are already bringing to Rio and to Brazil.”

The Logo was selected in amid competition between 140 agencies. Finally a design was selected which is created by Rio agency,Tatil.

IOC president Jacques Rogge made his first visit to Rio since the Pan American Games in 2007 and, in addition to seeing the logo unveiled, used the past few days to take a close look at how the city has been preparing for the Games.

A giant TV screen set up on the beach beamed the logo to cheering spectators. Shortly after, a massive flag with the logo was rolled out atop the crowd, who caused the banner to shimmer as the partiers danced underneath it.

“I would like to congratulate Rio’s team for the design chosen as the logo for Rio 2016, which is very innovative and creative,” Rogge said. “It really reflects the vision of Rio and Brazil for these Games.”

We still have 2012 games to start. And here we see great expectations from locals for 2016 games.

The New Year Bash!

The celebration that is not required.

The celebration that is not required.

Today marks the start of the year 2011. I am sure many of you  are going to get really tired from all the partying over the weekend.

I don’t really like to celebrate New Year like how many do around me. To me its just another day, of course it marks the start of a whole new year but whats the point in celebrating it ?

New Year’s eve in recent years have really become more extravagant then ever before. It has become an actual necessity to throw a party and spend extravagantly without even blinking.

My argument is very classic. Also known as the Mother Teresa’s argument. Its not fair that we enjoy ourselves and waste millions of dollars on things that are not necessary when we can help the needy and make it worthwhile for someone.

We all can celebrate the New Year in a whole different way by donating the money we planned for drinks and partying to some one who really needs food. Nations can make New Year’s resolutions that can really make a change in the world like eliminate poverty in their nation. Instead of flushing millions of dollars down the drain for a few minutes of spectacular display that no is going to care or talk about after a few hours.

All this seems to be drilled down to the basic nature of mankind, ‘selfish’. We would rather burn our extra cash then give it to someone who hasn’t eaten for the past week.

I am not trying to imply that I am not selfish. As a matter of fact I am and yes I love to burn my cash. But, there is a limit. I wouldn’t burn all my extra cash. I actually know people who burn cash they do not have just to celebrate New Year. Putting themselves in a debt that they really didn’t need.

The joy you get from helping somebody else is far greater and more everlasting then the joy you will ever get from burning your money over a few minutes of entertainment.

JUST TRY IT!
