India defeat Australia at the quarter finals of the ICC World Cup 2011

The Second quarter final between India Vs Australia was an absolute fans delight. After what we witnessed today, it is beyond doubt that the match was a world cup classic among the matches played so far.

India defeated 4 times world champion Australia thereby halting their world cup dominance.

The match begin with Ricky Pointing winning the toss and electing to bat first. The Aussie openers provided the steady and solid start for the country. At the end of  9th over, Australia loss their first wicket in the form of shane watson.

The Australia Captain Ricky Ponting who joined the crease with brad haddin was an absolute beauty to watch. He managed his innings so cleverly that he ended up hitting a century under his name.

Australia ended up 260 for 6 in the so called bowling pitch. One would predict that Australia would easily win the match  as the pitch was unfair for batman.

When India came to batting, it was well understood by the way they batted that the Indian batsman had done their home work. Sehwag was first to go out for 15 runs with Kohli joining him later for 24 runs.

India’s Sachin tendulkar and Gautam Gambhir provided the crucial partnership with both the batsman hitting half centuries.

No matter  how much one could say about the partnership between Sachin and Gambhir, still the runs didnt matter as India need more 100 runs to win.

Captain M S Dhoni then  joined the crease with Yuvraj Singh. Dhoni once again failed to score runs for the team as he got himself out for 7.

It was the same dhoni who gave an surprise criticizing interview at a post match conference held after the match between India and South Africa. Dhoni said ” Batsman should play for the country and not for crowd” .

However, Mr. Cool doesn’t follow the rule for himself when he got out trying to hit the bowl of Bret Lee for four.

The match was then interesting as Australia looked dangerous to stop. you can imagine nearly 50,000 people sitting in the stands watching you all around the corner. More importantly with a faith that India will win.

I think the motivation and cheer up given by the Indian fans helped India to win the match.

The new batsman Suresh Raina looked as though he was the man for the task. There was no doubt that he is the star of the match today.

If you ask me, i would rate Suresh Raina innings as the best ever of his career. Along with Yuvraj singh, the batsmen made sure India win the match.

During an interview with the commentator, Suresh Raina said ” During my time at the dressing room, Sachin came to me and told me ‘this might be the innings of my career'”.

Raina further added, Sachin gave him a good pep talk that increased my confidence.

We all know, Sachin is a team man, so there is no surprise here. Sachin Tendulkar is known for his helping hands towards the young cricketers.

Yuvraj Singh was awarded man of the match for his all round performance with bat and bowl. He remained unbeaten with 57 runs and also took 2 wickets giving 44 runs for 10 overs.
