Google loses the Canadian Groovle case

Posted by Shane On December - 30 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

Been a sad 2009 year for google. Not only it faced advertisers downfall and rivals uprising but also the imitation of  its own domain name.

A Canadian small business company named 207 media, has open a domain in the name of  Groovle.com for serving the  goal of search engine purpose.

Well, if your thinking that its a new search engine, then let me put it this way.

Groovle.com uses google search engine bar in the page for search. So Legally, they are using googles search operation.

The additional feature in Groovle.com is that, the website will allow the user to select an image or they can upload any image from the system and make it their desirable homepage and then proceed to search. If your unclear in this , have a peep on the image i have loaded.

In my image, i selected  planet earth picture and created a home page of my desirable. Come to think on it,  do you think it resembles the  features of Bing.com.      lol :)

Courts  Judgement:

Well, google sued groovle in the court and ask the jury to give the groovle domain to google. The Jury though dismissed the claim.

This is only the second time out of  65 cases where google has been refund on their request.

The three judges who was appointed for this case  said the name was not similar enough to confuse people and the word ‘groovle’ was more closely linked to “groovy” or “groove” rather than Google.

Not a good year after all. Right Google!!!

G-ForceG-Force

The super-hero talking guinea pigs of “G-Force” broke the spell cast by Harry Potter to take the top spot at the North American box office, according to studio estimates issued on Sunday.

The Disney animated family feature earned $32.1 million in the United States and Canada, pushing “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” down to 2nd place with $30 million in its second weekend — a 61 percent drop from its huge opening last weekend.

Romantic comedy “The Ugly Truth,” starring Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler, brought in a solid $27 million to take third place — above expectations, distributor Sony Pictures said.

“Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” the sixth film in the boy wizard franchise, had earned $159.7 million at the North American box office over its five-day opening period last week and set a global opening record of $396.7 million for distributors Warner Bros.

Industry watchers had expected the movie’s box office gross to fall by around 50-60 percent in its second weekend but still retain its number one spot in the United States and Canada.

Wow! Well, Harry Potter deservers it, after all the failed to make a good movie.

The most awkard work done by the police to identify a criminal happened in the canadian airport. A canadian woman named Menard was returning from Mexico to Canada where she was held by customs official at Montreal airport because her name and birth date matched exactly with the wanted criminal.

She was taken aside and was checked throughout. Her luggage was also checked. I was really stressed… I thought maybe somebody put something in my luggage,’ the woman told the news agency.

After the formal checking, the woman was taken to nearby cell and was asked by a lady officer to strip down. Aw, this is really irritable work done by the police officials. They want to check whether the woman had a suspected tatoo  at her back. Poor woman was stripped down and there was no tatoo there.

The lady official asked her to leave and within a min , the woman was again called to check whether she removed the tatoo earlier. After final verification, the woman was let off by the police asking her to change the name. Now wait a min, who are they to ask a public person to change the name. It doesnt count sense at all. They not only ill treat the woman but also giving unless suggestion.

Man, the woman Menard has now filed a complaint with the police watchdog and the Canadian border Security Agency (CBSA) to seek an explanation for their conduct.’They should have enough computer information to verify more than the birth date and the name. It is too basic,’ she said.

Border authorities say that, Confusion is prone to happen as 100 million people enter Canada each year.

Future says ” if you want to recharge your cell phone battery walk for a min and get 10 minute of battery power”. This sounds cool right. It will be a great discovery in science world. The praise for the device discovery goes to Canadian researchers. And do you know how will the device  generate power, it will get the power from the Knee of the people wearing it.Each step you take out power is generated.

“It would surprise a lot of people to know that there is a lot of power available from the knee joint during walking. We’re taking advantage of energy that’s already being produced and wasted,” the Christian Science Monitor quoted Max Donelan, a professor of biomedical physiology and kinesiology at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia, as saying.

To explain this power saving process, the researchers says that its  like using the wasted energy back  for conservative purpose. Well a good sound example is use of  energy that is generated by braking system (Kinetic energy) which used otherwise be wasted as heat.

Its need a simple walking activity to charge the cell. Although to charge a cell battery will take less electric power but still it is a power used or wasted. By using human energy the other source of energy can be preserved. But the researches admits  that “Human energy can no way stand to other nature energy that is used”

“Walking is a lot like stop-and-go driving,” said Dr. Donelan. While testing the device during a study, his team found that the subjects on a treadmill didn’t notice using any extra exertion when it was turned on.The researchers, however, were surprised to find that when the mechanism was turned off, the subjects did notice and in fact missed the assistance.

“For three or four strides they swung their legs a little faster (than normal),” Dr. Donelan said. Now comes the cost part, sadly Donelan was not  interested to price the device for now and it is to be priced in future

Swine Flu, Severe then 1957 Pandamic ?

Posted by Tommy On May - 12 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

Reports are now suggesting that the swine flu which has already infected people in 30 countries can be as severe as the 1957 “Asian flu” pandemic that was responsible for the death of 2 Million people.

About 4 of 1000 people infected with the new H1N1 virus in Mexico by late April died. Now scientists are trying to determine if the swine flu will mutate and become more deadly as it spreads to the southern hemisphere and back. The virus is more contentious than the seasonal flu. A “Moderate” pandemic like the 1957 Asian flu could kill 14.2 million people and shave 2% from the global economic the first year itself. The swine flu being categorised as “Severe” can do much more.

“While substantial uncertainty remains, clinical severity appears less than that seen in 1918 but comparable with that seen in 1957,” the Science study authors wrote.

So how did the global pandemic flu actually form in the first place? Well, flu pandemics occur when is a strain of the disease to which few people have immunity evolves and began spreading. Pandemics usually after 2 to 3 times a century, scientists have said. A worldwide outbreak as severe as the 1918 Spanish flu might cause 180 million to 360 million deaths, according to a 2005 study in the New England Journal of Medicine.

The last pandemic that hit this century was in 1968 and the health officials have been anticipating another since the H5N1 virus began spreading widely in birds in 2003.

As of now swine flu has been confirmed 4694 people, according to World Health Organization and the health agency of the United Nations. And 61 people how been killed, the majority being from Mexico where 56 people have been killed and three in the US. The rest are, one from Canada and one from Costa Rica. US tops the list in the most confirmed cases of swine flu which is 2618 cases in 44 states according to the centres for disease control and prevention.

Thailand and Cuba today have reported their country’s first confirmed case of swine flu. Thailand’s Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and the former Cuban President Fedel Castro confirmed it today. These figures are not included in the world health organization’s latest tally.

A new study has said that each person infected with swine flu in Mexico in April gave at least 1.4 more people on average. While these figures are in the lower range of transmission for a pandemic, it is quicker than most seasonal flus.

As swine flu continues to spread in many countries across the world in the time of global recession, the swine flu can also be a major factor that melts the economy.

Reports are also confirming that swine flu is more prone to people with asthma and diabetes.
