Teenage Sailor Abby Sunderland Lost At Sea!!

Posted by Shane On June - 10 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

Abby Sunderland may have just set the country on fire by being lost at sea. We all know how important it is for an AMERICAN like her to go missing. The 16-yr old is trying to become the youngest to ever sail around the world:

TV satellite trucks were beginning to gather outside the modest Thousand Oaks home…… where teen sailor Abby Sunderland lives with her parents. Occasionally, reporters would knock on the front door of the home covered with ivy and geranium. But no one answered.

Students from nearby Thousand Oaks high school walked down the street wondering why news trucks were here. Gage Guzman, 17, said he hoped that Abby would be found safe. “She’s younger than me and she’s sailing around the world, and by herself, that’s even crazier,” he said. “She’s brave, I don’t even go into the ocean by myself.”

Guzman’s younger brother, Shawn, 15, said he didn’t think her attempt to sail around the world was reckless. “If it’s her dream to sail, and she wants to follow her dream, that’s courageous. “

Sunderland, out of necessity, abandoned her quest to become the youngest person to sail around the world alone, nonstop and unassisted. However, the 16-year-old was continuing her mission to become the youngest person to sail around the world.

Sailing experts said the Southern Indian Ocean where Sunderland was sailing when she apparently signaled emergency beacon locating devices on Thursday is known to be a difficult challenge. Charlie Nobles, executive director of the American Sailing Assn., said that winter storms in the Southern Hemisphere are fast approaching, creating rough waves that can reach dozens of feet high. He also said that there are fewer hours of light during the day, which can make navigating the waters difficult.

“There’s just not a lot of land in that part of the world,” Nobles said. “You have to follow certain patterns because you need the trade winds. Where she is right now is in between Australia and South Africa.”

Sailors had criticized Sunderland for leaving so late in the year for her journey. She departed from Marina del Rey on Jan. 23, later than she had wanted to because of equipment issues. She also had to make a stop in Mexico to make repairs, which wasted precious time before the approaching winter southern storms.

Nobles said that sailing around Cape Horn between South America and the Antarctic Peninsula was speculated to be Sunderland’s greatest challenge. But she rounded the cape in April without many issues, he said.

“A lot of people talk about the Horn because that’s what you hear about in National Geographic specials,” Nobles said. “But it wasn’t that big of a deal, fortunately, for her.”

Shortly after setting sail, Sunderland abandoned her quest to become the youngest person to sail around the world alone, without any stops or assistance.

“I don’t know enough facts to know whether this is something she necessarily could have avoided or if it was a bad decision,” Nobles said. “My hope was that if she was at a certain point in her journey, she would say, ‘I’m less concerned about a record than to try to make it through safely.’ “

Abby Sunderland’s brother, Zac, last year completed his solo sail around the world at age 17.

Sunderland’s latest entry on her blog Wednesday described hitting rough weather and winds at 45 knots. “Wild Eyes was great through everything, but after a day with over 50 knots at times, I had quite a bit of work to do,” she wrote about her vessel.

Her parents have said in news reports that they had persuaded Abby to get to the nearest port in the event that dangerous conditions arose.

Someone better get Obama on the phone…

US and Russia share talks on Iran threat

Posted by Shane On October - 13 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

Sergei Lavrov and hillary clintonThe cold war legends USA and Russia have joined hands to tackle the iran threat. Fearing  the  possibility that Iran may rise as a new  Nuclear Threat towards the global power makes the  developed countries  work hard onto it.

Iran, a country of Middle east, has recently been on the NEWS for all the bad reasons . Right from the political drama to the nuclear energy , the country seems to be in question for  an individual security.

One of my friends living at US, tells me that  a  Iran family speaks out on how hardship they face  under the present situation in Iran.  Normal life  cannot be achieved in Iran right now, he reports.

Well,  US secretary of state  Hillary  Clinton and  Russia’s   Sergei Lavrov   met  at  Moscow for talks between the countries. Iran nuclear programme was the first thing to be discussed  in the talks.

Mrs Clinton, in Moscow at the end of a European tour, praised Russia for its “extremely cooperative” work with world powers over the Iranian nuclear crisis.Mr Lavrov said Russia was “very reserved” about  Iran at the moment.

“We believe Iran is entitled to peaceful energy but is not entitled to nuclear arms,” Mrs. Clinton told reporters.

“Russia agrees with us on that.”

Russia earlier  opposed tougher sanctions on Iran but Mr Medvedev appeared to shift his stance after the revelation that Tehran had a second uranium enrichment facility in the city of Qom.

He has indicated that his government may ultimately accept further sanctions as inevitable.

Telling Barack Obama that “Hillary Clinton called” might land one in trouble, for this is one of the 21 things that the White House staff is barred from saying to the U.S. President.

According to the Politico, a list of 21 things the staff were not allowed to say to the President was circulated in the White House.

The 21 Things You Cannot Say to the President after a News Conference are:

1. Hey, we hear the Golf Channel is going to carry it next time. Well, actually, only the Golf Channel is going to carry it next time.

2. Don’t worry. We’ll get ‘em next year.

3. Professor Gates called. He can’t find his house keys.

4. You want to take a mulligan on this one?

5. We did try to plant a question about Bo, but nobody would go for it.

6. Saying, “I don’t know all the facts … but the police acted stupidly” is a little like saying, “I don’t know if there are weapons of mass destruction … but let’s invade Iraq anyway.”

7. We’ve decided to call the whole news conference a “teachable moment.”

8. You want a cigarette?

9. Biden called.

10. William Henry “Bill” Gates is the Microsoft guy. Robert Michael Gates is the secretary of defense guy. Henry Louis Gates Jr. is the Harvard professor. They are not related and have never performed in Vegas together. Gibbs will walk this back in the gaggle. 1. Tape it over? But, Mr. President, these press conferences are live.

12. The reason we can’t put the questions on the teleprompter is because we aren’t supposed to know the questions in advance.

13. Those bunched-up clothes in the bed turned out not to be Douglas Elmendorf.

14. That reporter wasn’t from North Carolina; he was from North Korea.

15. Hillary called.

16. You want a blue pill?

17. We checked: After six months, they can’t fire you.

18. If nobody blogs about it, we think you’ll be OK.

19. Now, is somebody willing to rehearse more and play golf less?

20. The only poll that counts is the one on Election Day.

21. Rahm wants to see you in his office immediately

The four founders of  The Pirate Bay have been sent to jail following the orders of a Sweden Court. The Pirate Bay is the biggest network today which has file sharing in the form of torrents. It is approximately estimated that along 5 million files are shared per day.

Though it has huge popularity online. The Pirate Bay Owners were facing extreme Copyright issue problem throughout the entertainment field. Some claimed its the act of Piracy of sharing the movies,tv shows,etc.. in form of torrents. The owners of the pirate bay denied the charges throughout the trial, saying that “they did not actually host any files, they were not doing anything wrong“.

This looks pretty tricky case though. But the verdict has been issues against  Frederik Neij, Gottfrid Svartholm Warg, Carl Lundstrom and Peter Sunde who are the owners of The Pirate Bay and have been sentenced to 1 year jail.

Not only have they been jailed but also they have  been asked to pay a ransom money of 30m kronor (£2.4m) as  damages to the entertainment companies. It will be awarded to the number of entertainment companies, including Warner Bros, Sony Music Entertainment, EMI, and Columbia Pictures.

Peter Sunde says that this is just like a theatre to media and he is aware of the judgement before its official release itself. He also added “The Pirate Bay will continue. Nothing is going to happen if we lose, for a multitude for reasons, not least because we will immediately appeal”.

He  also added that ,” there is no difference between Google and us”.The Entertainment Industry seem to be quiet happy by the verdict as they say that JUSTICE has been done. However, the firm actually seeked 117m kronor (£9m) as damages done to them. The chairman of industry body the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) John Kennedy said the verdict sent out a clear message.

“The Pirate Bay did immense harm and the damages awarded doesn’t even get close to compensation, but we never claimed it did.”There has been a perception that piracy is OK and that the music industry should just have to accept it. This verdict will change that,” he said.

A lawyer for Carl Lundstrom, Per Samuelson told journalists he was shocked by the guilty verdict and the severity of the sentence. “That’s outrageous, in my point of view. Of course we will appeal,” he was quoted as saying by Reuters news agency. “This is the first word, not the last. The last word will be ours.”

Some claimed that the file sharing is Ok in sweden and there is some political issue behind it.Anyway,it seems to be a clear message  by the court for not  only to the pirate bay but  also many websites  owners that use Copyright content.
