The ICC world cup match between England and South Africa held today in chennai, India will be remembered for a long days to come by the local fans as well as England fans for the thriller it provided them.

England successfully defended their low target of 171 for 10 against the giant South Africa. As the saying goes low scoring matches will be the real threat to watch, this match was not an exception to that.

As a cricket fan myself, i will remember this match for long days to come.

The match begin with England winning the toss and electing to bat first.

The England opening batsman started the innings very disastrously by falling very easily to the South African bowling making the score 15/3.

Jonathan  Trott  and Ravi Bopara were the real star for the England team today as they both build up a solid partnership ,thereby completing their respective half centuries.

As they continue to go forward, South Africa bounced back with an explosive performance by restricting England to 171 for 10

One would expect SA to easily walk away with a win, but the result was different.

South Africa started the innings with very much as they used to in any other matches. They were solid in their batting.

SA lose their first wicket in the form of Smith when the score was  63. After which the collapse of SA batting began as batsman had no clue for English bowling, in particular, Graeme Swann’s attack.

In the end though, SA lost the match with just 6 runs in the scoreboard. SA end their innings for 165 for 10.

Ravi Bopara of England was awarded the Man of the Match award.

Man of the Match Ravi Bopara says that he came to know last night hat he would be playing. Adds that it feels great to be back into the side. Says that he never expected the side to be 15/3, especially with the quality of players at the top. He too, did not expect the pitch to turn so much, but adds that in an IPL game in 2010, his team had defended a target of 120, so he was sure that the spinners will come into play.

Graeme Smith Favourite Test Cap stolen!!!

Posted by Shane On December - 24 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

The Test cap that South African skipper Graeme Smith has used from his first ever Test for South Africa has been stolen whilst travelling from Cape Town to Durban.

Lol!

Smith revealed this news via his Twitter account earlier in the day :

“Realise this is a long shot, but had my Test cap that I’ve used since my 1st Test for Proteas stolen on travel up to Durbs. Cap means a lot to me so if you know anything pls give me a shout……thx !!!

This is really weird. I am aware that there is a long list of captains who are superstitious, but not in my wildest dream i thought South African skipper will be one among them.

I think he holds the cap close to his heart. so folks if you know anything about it let him know.

Teenage Sailor Abby Sunderland Lost At Sea!!

Posted by Shane On June - 10 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

Abby Sunderland may have just set the country on fire by being lost at sea. We all know how important it is for an AMERICAN like her to go missing. The 16-yr old is trying to become the youngest to ever sail around the world:

TV satellite trucks were beginning to gather outside the modest Thousand Oaks home…… where teen sailor Abby Sunderland lives with her parents. Occasionally, reporters would knock on the front door of the home covered with ivy and geranium. But no one answered.

Students from nearby Thousand Oaks high school walked down the street wondering why news trucks were here. Gage Guzman, 17, said he hoped that Abby would be found safe. “She’s younger than me and she’s sailing around the world, and by herself, that’s even crazier,” he said. “She’s brave, I don’t even go into the ocean by myself.”

Guzman’s younger brother, Shawn, 15, said he didn’t think her attempt to sail around the world was reckless. “If it’s her dream to sail, and she wants to follow her dream, that’s courageous. “

Sunderland, out of necessity, abandoned her quest to become the youngest person to sail around the world alone, nonstop and unassisted. However, the 16-year-old was continuing her mission to become the youngest person to sail around the world.

Sailing experts said the Southern Indian Ocean where Sunderland was sailing when she apparently signaled emergency beacon locating devices on Thursday is known to be a difficult challenge. Charlie Nobles, executive director of the American Sailing Assn., said that winter storms in the Southern Hemisphere are fast approaching, creating rough waves that can reach dozens of feet high. He also said that there are fewer hours of light during the day, which can make navigating the waters difficult.

“There’s just not a lot of land in that part of the world,” Nobles said. “You have to follow certain patterns because you need the trade winds. Where she is right now is in between Australia and South Africa.”

Sailors had criticized Sunderland for leaving so late in the year for her journey. She departed from Marina del Rey on Jan. 23, later than she had wanted to because of equipment issues. She also had to make a stop in Mexico to make repairs, which wasted precious time before the approaching winter southern storms.

Nobles said that sailing around Cape Horn between South America and the Antarctic Peninsula was speculated to be Sunderland’s greatest challenge. But she rounded the cape in April without many issues, he said.

“A lot of people talk about the Horn because that’s what you hear about in National Geographic specials,” Nobles said. “But it wasn’t that big of a deal, fortunately, for her.”

Shortly after setting sail, Sunderland abandoned her quest to become the youngest person to sail around the world alone, without any stops or assistance.

“I don’t know enough facts to know whether this is something she necessarily could have avoided or if it was a bad decision,” Nobles said. “My hope was that if she was at a certain point in her journey, she would say, ‘I’m less concerned about a record than to try to make it through safely.’ “

Abby Sunderland’s brother, Zac, last year completed his solo sail around the world at age 17.

Sunderland’s latest entry on her blog Wednesday described hitting rough weather and winds at 45 knots. “Wild Eyes was great through everything, but after a day with over 50 knots at times, I had quite a bit of work to do,” she wrote about her vessel.

Her parents have said in news reports that they had persuaded Abby to get to the nearest port in the event that dangerous conditions arose.

Whow, this is something really rare to see. Javier ‘Chicharo’ Hernandez, who is the manager of Chivas has quit his job for seeing his son Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez play for Mexico.

Blood relation comes first then duty, this is what we can conclude on this.

According to Goal.com,

Javier ‘Chicharo’ Hernandez has quit his job as manager of Chivas’ reserve side in order to watch his son, Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez, play for Mexico in this summer’s World Cup in South Africa.

Hernandez had initially asked for permission to leave for some time from the Chivas institution, but they refused and so he quit 11 days ago, according to several media outlets.

“I asked for permission to go to the World Cup, and they didn’t allow me,” Hernandez told reporters. [...]

“I had to think about it for two days with my family and kids and I made the decision to quit because I want to go to the World Cup and see my kid play. Work is secondary.”

Hernandez said that the decision was helped by once-in-a-lifetime experiences.”It was difficult, but in the end one is not eternal,” he noted.

“Institutions remain for lives and one doesn’t. Moments from your life is what makes you take that decision. I understand the institution and that no one is above it, but one is also just here in passing.”
