Crop circles, Google Earth, and the logo mystery

Posted by Shane On September - 15 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

Crop circles, Google Earth, and the logo mysteryOn Google’s homepage today, the search giant swapped out its normal logo for a UFO-themed Google doodle. The illustrated flying saucer carved out “Goog e” in the corn field, and a little green tractor finishes off the “l.”

Such logo swaps are common for the tech titan, but what are they celebrating? Most of these “doodles” are tied to a particular anniversary or celebrity birthday. Why crop circles? Why today?

To add to the mystery, Google posted the coordinates “51.327629, -0.5616088” in a cryptic Twitter tweet. Curious searchers identified the spot as Horsell, England. Sci-Fi aficionados may recognize the name. In “War of the Worlds,” HG Wells wrote that Horsell residents witnessed the first UFO landing.

This has some Google watchers, including Guardian reporter John Vidal, insisting that the new logo is “almost certainly a viral marketing campaign teasing people ahead of some launch in a week or two. One possible explanation is that it’s trailing an online ‘happening’ that will coincide with the 143rd anniversary of Wells’s birth next week.”

Interesting theory. With people eager for more answers, online searches for “crop circles google earth” hit “volcanic” popularity this morning, according to Google Trends.

While we wait for more information, here’s a little crop-circle fun: YouTube users regularly compile their favorite circle sightings into quick Google Earth videos. Here’s one of the best.

Bacteria Species Found outside the Atmosphere

Its getting exciting for the scientist who have been searching for extra terrestrial life outside the earth. The good news is  that the scientist from India have found 3 bacteria in stratosphere, according to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

These 3 bacteria are not found in Earth and are highly resistent  to ultra-violet rays. The scientist claim their founding 15km away from the  earth’s atmosphere and its near upper stratosphere.

The name of the bacteria has been named after the founders. While one of the species has been named Janibacter hoylei after astrophysicist Fred Hoyle, the second has been christened Bacillus isronensis recognising the ISRO’s contribution in balloon experiments which led to the discovery. The third has been named Bacillus aryabhata after the Indian astronomer.

Though the present study  doesnt prove the exsistence of the extra terrestrial life outside our Earth…It is considered a positive  note by the scientists.

Mosquitos can survive in outer space

Can you believe the survival of  living organism outside space..Well i was  not  till date  until  scientists from Russia and Japanese proved me wrong.

A russian scientist said that Mosquito has managed to survive in other space for  18 months till they brought it  to  Earth. This was confirmed by Anatoly Grigoryev, vice president of the Russian Academy of Sciences Who added “We brought it back to  earth and its  still moving its feet”

Grigoryev said that they moved the  insect outside  the space  by order of institute and they have  earlier tried the experiment on Bacteria and fungi outside space  until a Japanese scientist suggested  mosquito’s.

The amazing fact is the  mosquito survived in the extreme chillness of minus 150 t0 hot  temperature of 60 degree of sunlight.

From 2005  along with Japanese scientist ,Russian scientist conducted various experiment on DNA ,larvae (which resisted to  high temperature even if they were boiled and cooled  to  minus 210).

To add to this  findings, the scientist are planning to send a number of micro organisms to Phobos,One of  mars-moon under Phobos-Grunt programme and then return them to earth.Scientist believe this  by this  way they could  find out their survival and reversible suspended-animation mechanisms..

Well the researchers are trying to play their part  to the findings of Russian and Japanese scientist.
