Back to the future to be video gamed?

Posted by Shane On June - 12 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

Sources from Universal Studios tell us , “Back to the future is to be video gamed in an episodic way”.

Not only back to the future but the company is seriously considering to bring back Jurassic park as a video game.

“Jurassic Park and Back to the Future are two of our broadest and most beloved properties,” said Bill Kispert, interactive vice president at Universal Studios. “We were very interested in bringing them into the interactive space, but they’re not exactly the kind of properties that lend themselves to the stereotypical shoot-’em-up style of gameplay.”

Telltale CEO Dan Connors added: “Telltale Games has always set out to be a great storytelling company. We’ve been honing our chops over the past six years, and we’re ready to take on these two iconic properties and continue to advance storytelling in games. The games are going to exist within these worlds. I wouldn’t call these games sequels per se but a new interpretation of their worlds for a new medium. For one generation, it’s an introduction to these series. For another generation, it’s a thing they can look back on and something they can share warmly with their family and friends.”

Harry Potter Theme Park

Oh yea, you read the title correctly. Great news for Harry potter fans. It seems that the Harry Potter Theme Park is all set to be opened this spring. They have been planning and constructing this theme park since March 2007. Now it seems to be in the final stages of the development and all set to be opened for public.

They have named this theme park as The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. On Tuesday, Universal Studios unveiled details of the wizarding world, a 20-acre park. They already have a website set-up with details about the rides that will be available in this new theme park.

Click here to visit the theme park website.

The theme park site explains that visitors can sip Butterbeer at The Three Broomsticks, buy Extendable Ears, eat “traditional British fare”, and ride the “Flight of the Hippogriff”– a “family coaster stimulating a Hippogriff training flight.”

That seems like lots of fun. But I wonder how the rides are designed, it will be a total put-off if they are regular rides with Harry Potter cut-outs on their side. LOL.

The so-called “theme park within a theme park” will be faithful to the visual landscapes of the Harry Potter films produced by Warner Brothers, which licensed the rights to Universal after a flirtation with the Walt Disney Company. “We’ve tried to include something from every book,” Alan Gilmore, an art director for the films who is helping to oversee the theme park designs, said in an interview.

“We had free range to be as grand and as excessive as we could be,” he added. “It’s only money that holds us back in the end.”

You can visit the theme park at Universal Orlando Resort in Florida.

Lets see how this turns out.
