Tampa Bay coach, Guy Boucher has been fired on Sunday according to ESPN. The Lighting has fired their couch as they don’t want to head in the direction that Guy Boucher is taking them.
The Tampa Bay franchise owners where fiddling the fingers for quite sometime, but finally dropped the axe.
Tampa Bay General Manager Steve Yzerman admitted that Boucher poured his “heart and soul” into the franchise, but they felt it was time to move in a different direction for the best of the franchise. Tampa Bay sits next to last in the East, with a 13-17-1 record.
In his last game as head coach, the Lightning fell behind by four goals in the first period against Ottawa. That was the last straw that led to the Tampa Bay coach fired.
After adding goalie Anders Lindback and defensemen Sami Salo and Matt Carle, the Tampa Bay Lightning thought they were headed in the right direction. However injuries to Lindback and team captain Vincent Lecavalier derailed their chances and the look to miss the playoffs once again.
Steve Yzerman now sits on the hot seat. Hiring Boucher was his first major move as GM, despite only one year of coaching experience. Now, with the Tampa Bay coach fired after only three years, Yzerman sets out to try to find a suitable replacement that can turn his franchise around.
